WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVATION?
I love to be outside! I really enjoy running and racing is a fun way to see what I can do. I like to try my best and test myself.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT?
My 7-year-old son! In terms of running, I'm not sure. I think my 2:52 marathon PR at Boston was a huge accomplishment for me because it occurred when I was at a very low point in my life emotionally, so it was a real affirmation of my strength of self. I've enjoyed many victories in running at a variety of distances, and I would love to say they are meaningful to me, but honestly, they are nice at the moment they happen, but then become distant memories for me fairly quickly. I am most happy when I feel like I've put together the best race I could have, coming into an event fit and mentally sharp, and executing a smart race that results in my best possible effort that day, regardless of where I place in the overall standings.
WHO IS YOUR HERO?
My husband. He exemplifies many qualities that I respect and value, particularly generosity, kindness and integrity.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST ABOUT YOUR SPORT?
I love that it affords us the opportunity to challenge and celebrate the capabilities of the human mind, body and spirit. Running is a lifelong way to enjoy the outdoors, form friendships and build confidence.
WHY IS TAKING CARE OF YOUR FEET IMPORTANT TO YOU?
When your feet hurt, your day is difficult. It is that simple. Having had a foot injury in the past, I can attest it is a real hindrance to doing many things we take for granted. Not just running, but even just going for a walk on a nice day, or even something as simple as getting from one end of the house to the other becomes unappealing. Basic movements become uncomfortable chores. Taking care of ones feet is super important!
